Landon Donovan Returns to Soccer After Two-Year Retirement
Former MLS MVP and U.S. National Team Legend Signs with San Diego Sockers
Donovan, 36, is the MLS's all-time leading scorer and assist leader and is widely considered the greatest American male soccer player of all time.
Landon Donovan, the former U.S. National Team captain and MLS MVP, has announced his return to soccer after a two-year retirement. The 36-year-old Donovan has signed with the San Diego Sockers of the Major Arena Soccer League.
Donovan is the MLS's all-time leading scorer with 145 goals and is also the league's all-time leader in assists with 136. He was named the MLS MVP in 2009 and was a member of the U.S. National Team that won the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Donovan retired from soccer in 2016 after a successful 14-year career. He played for the San Jose Earthquakes, LA Galaxy, Everton, and Bayern Munich during his club career.
Donovan's return to soccer is sure to be a major boost for the San Diego Sockers. The Sockers are one of the most successful teams in the Major Arena Soccer League, having won nine championships.
